Christmas Past I FINALLY got around to getting one of JD's Christmas presents framed. An 1863 Confederate States of America $1,000 bond. With all it's little clip and spend coupons. Every six months you'd get $40 interest. From the sounds of it even the little coupons were accepted in many places as currency. |

Wow, very cool. Looks to be in mint condition - hope you didn't have to spend a "mint" for it. But you can always cash in a coupon or two.

Not so much anymore but in the old days in Nevada; 50s, 60s, and 70s a gaming chip could be used in place of cash for things like buying drinks, or even in the restaurants for a meal. Employees such as bartenders, cocktail waitresses and food servers would also gladly chips for a tip. We would cash them in at the end of the shift. They still get used for tips (tokes) but cannot use them for currency anymore to pay for anything.
